Events on Bonaire

Ever since I moved to Bonaire, I’ve been amazed by how the island truly comes alive during its annual events. Bonaire is usually peaceful and perfect for relaxing, but when festival season begins, the whole island transforms into a vibrant celebration!

Bonaire Regatta – A seaside celebration (October)

One of my favorite events is the Bonaire Regatta, held every October. The entire island is buzzing with excitement. During the day, you can enjoy sailboat races and all kinds of water sports. It’s such a beautiful sight!

If you want to experience it up close, I highly recommend staying at Elegancia del Caribe or Playa Lechi Residence they offer a perfect view of the bay. Personally, I love going in the evenings when the real party begins. Local performers take the stage, and sometimes artists from the neighboring islands join in too. You’ll find food stalls everywhere — my favorites are the Surinamese dishes and traditional local krioyo food.

Carnival – Colorful and full of energy (February)

In February, we celebrate Carnival, when Kralendijk turns into one big street party. You’ll see people in bright costumes, music blasting from parade floats, and everyone dancing in the streets. It’s a spectacular event that draws in many tourists.

Even though Carnival is amazing, the Regatta remains my personal favorite of the year.

Dia di Rincon – Culture and pride (April)

In April, it’s time for Dia di Rincon, the celebration of Bonaire’s oldest town. This day is all about music, dance, and cultural traditions. The people of Rincon proudly share their heritage, and it’s incredible to feel the joy and pride that fills the streets.

Dia di Boneiru – Bonaire’s national holiday (September)

In September, we celebrate Dia di Boneiru, Bonaire’s national holiday. The whole island gets involved. Cars, buildings, and streets are decorated with flags. A big party takes place in downtown Kralendijk, full of music, dancing, and local food.
