A symbolic ceremony, without the hassle

Yes, you can legally marry on Bonaire. But many couples don’t. They take care of the legal part at home, often a quick appointment at their city hall and save the real moment for here.

That way, you don’t have to deal with official paperwork or complicated timelines. You get to focus on what matters: the ceremony, the words, the setting, and the people you want by your side.

There are independent officiants on Bonaire who lead symbolic ceremonies. They’re not tied to the government, and they don’t register marriages. What they do is create something meaningful and personal, just for the two of you.

A short word about Bonaire

Bonaire is part of the ABC islands. Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao. All in the Dutch Caribbean. But where the others have become busier and more tourist-focused, Bonaire has stayed quiet. No highways. No traffic lights. Just nature, the sea, and a steady warmth of around 30°C all year round.

It’s not a place for show. But it is a place where small moments can carry meaning, especially when you say “I do” here.

What makes it so meaningful

There are no fixed rules. No forms to fill. Just a moment you design yourselves.

You might stand by the sea. Or in a quiet garden. Maybe it’s just the two of you. Maybe a few loved ones are with you. You say what you want to say. There’s space for laughter, for tears or for silence.

It’s not official on paper. But it’s very real in every other way.

Places we often recommend

Over the years, we’ve seen weddings take place all over the island. Every one is different, but a few places tend to stay in people’s memories including ours.

Sorobon beach (Lac Bay) – A quiet beach on the east coast. The water is clear and shallow, the air moves gently, and the light is soft. It’s peaceful without trying to be.

Klein Bonaire – You’ll need a boat to get there. There are no buildings, no roads. Just sand, sea, and sky. A place where the world feels far away.

Villa Alvaro (Crown Keys 22) – A modern, private villa with sea views and plenty of space. Ideal for small, intimate weddings with comfort and calm. Click on the link for more information

Villa Thirty-Four (Playa Lechi 34) – Right on the waterfront in Kralendijk. You can step from the terrace into the sea. Great for couples who want to combine the feeling of home with something extraordinary. Click on the link for more information

While you’re on the Island

Bonaire is more than a wedding location. If you stay a few extra days, and you should. There’s plenty to see. Some places we suggest again and again:

Kralendijk – The island’s main town. Colourful, relaxed, and full of good places to sit, eat, and take in the atmosphere.

Gotomeer – A saltwater lake where flamingos often gather. It’s quiet, especially in the morning, and beautiful in a way that’s hard to describe.

Washington Slagbaai National Park – Wild landscapes, hidden beaches, and views that stretch for miles. Bring water and take your time.

1000 Steps – A dive site with a name that sounds worse than it is. Even if you’re not diving, the view from the top is worth the walk down.

The Salt Flats – Pink pools, white salt hills. The contrast is striking, especially late in the day when the sun hangs low.
